The guitar player

“The guitar player” is one of the painting that Johannes Vermeer that included female and music instrument as a subject in painting, and this is also one of the painting that using camera obscura as a positioning of an art work.
In 17th century, female is popular to be subject in a painting, and Johannes Vermeer had this intension from the artwork “lady and the landscape” and therefore he painted this painting. This painting is mainly conveying the beauty of female and to show the young lady is enjoying while she is playing guitar. The young lady being painted in this art work is daughter of Johannes Vermeer, her name is Maria and her age is just around 17 or 18 in when this painting is done, she is chosen because she suits the young women sunny disposition. Colour of her dress is in warm colour to show young and cherish of a young lady, and her yellow jacket and satin dress had reflected the fashion of middle class in 17th century.
According to art history, music is playing an important part in European society, besides, music is also one of the methods of flirting in 17th century, and baroque guitar is the most common instrument can be found during that period, so he had chosen the baroque guitar as the main subject in this painting. Other than that, the book located at the right side had indicated as bible to represent holy text.
I found this painting is very interesting, Johannes Vermeer built his composition in different method, it is unusual than other painting, even the arm of young lady is cut by edge, but in the other hand, he had aligned the French gilt vertically axis with the girl's body and the sound hole of the guitar that stabilizes the otherwise unusual composition. Besides, the young lady not drawn inward but looking through outward, this method is similar to photo taking method nowadays, it can brings audience to guess what is going to happen next.

In Redcliffe State Park

This drawing is finished by Wolf Kahn in 1999, it is well known as “In Redcliff State Park”. He was using pastel as the medium to finish this drawing and this piece of drawing was in 35.56x43.18 cms

In this drawing, he had use split-complementary and complementary colour as the main colour to complete this art work, the reason he use split-complementary and complementary colour is because he want to show strongly contrast in this art work and bring more depth-in-field.

Beside, blue was used at background colour and represent sky, yellow and orange was use as the main colour in foreground to bring more contrast to the sky and show a strongly contrast in this whole art work. Blue was use to represent trust, honesty and loyalty, beside, blue seeks peace and tranquillity above everything else, promoting both physical and mental relaxation. It reduces stress, creating a sense of calmness, relaxation and order, and the positive keywords of blue were loyalty, trust and integrity, tactful, reliability and responsibility, conservatism and perseverance, caring and concern, idealistic and orderly, authority, devotion and contemplation, peaceful and calm.

Next, in the middle ground, there is a house with yellow-orange roof top and which yellow represent uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun, while orange is also represent warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow.

In this piece of art work, the colour he used is not only yellow, orange and blue, it also grey, black and a little bit of green to brings the whole piece of art work complete. In the other hand, there is also a little bit of peach colour in the down left corner to bring more contrast and brings more complexity to the whole art work.

World War II

World War II (WWII or WW2), also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved the vast majority of the world's nations—including all of the great powers—eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100 million people serving in military units from over 30 different countries. In a state of "total war", the major participants placed their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities at the service of the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust and the only use of nuclear weapons in warfare, it resulted in an estimated 50 million to 85 million fatalities. These deaths make World War II the deadliest conflict in human history.

The Empire of Japan aimed to dominate East Asia and was already at war with the Republic of China in 1937, but the world war is generally said to have begun on 1 September 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Germany and subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and the United Kingdom. From late 1939 to early 1941, in a series of campaigns and treaties, Germany formed the Axis alliance with Italy, conquering or subduing much of continental Europe. Following the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, Germany and the Soviet Union partitioned and annexed territories between themselves of their European neighbours, including Poland and the Baltic states. The United Kingdom and the other members of the British Commonwealth were the only major Allied forces continuing the fight against the Axis, with battles taking place in North Africa as well as the long-running Battle of the Atlantic. In June 1941, the European Axis launched an invasion of the Soviet Union, giving a start to the largest land theatre of war in history, which tied down the major part of the Axis' military forces for the rest of the war. In December 1941, Japan joined the Axis, attacked the United States and European territories in the Pacific Ocean, and quickly conquered much of the Western Pacific.

The Axis advance was stopped in 1942 Japan lost a critical battle at Midway, near Hawaii, and never regained its earlier momentum. Germany was defeated in North Africa and, decisively, at Stalingrad in Russia. In 1943, with a series of German defeats in Eastern Europe, the Allied invasion of Italy which brought about that nation's surrender, and American victories in the Pacific, the Axis lost the initiative and undertook strategic retreat on all fronts. In 1944, the Western Allies invaded France, while the Soviet Union regained all of its territorial losses and invaded Germany and its allies. During 1944 and 1945 the United States defeated the Japanese Navy and captured key Western Pacific islands.

The war in Europe ended with an invasion of Germany by the Western Allies and the Soviet Union culminating in the capture of Berlin by Soviet and Polish troops and the subsequent German unconditional surrender on 8 May 1945. Following the Potsdam Declaration by the Allies on 26 July 1945, the United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 August and 9 August respectively. With an invasion of the Japanese archipelago imminent, and the Soviet Union having declared war on Japan by invading Manchuria, Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945, ending the war in Asia and cementing the total victory of the Allies over the Axis.

World War II altered the political alignment and social structure of the world. The United Nations (UN) was established to foster international co-operation and prevent future conflicts. The great powers that were the victors of the war—the United States, the Soviet Union, China, the United Kingdom, and France—became the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. The Soviet Union and the United States emerged as rival superpowers, setting the stage for the Cold War, which lasted for the next 46 years. Meanwhile, the influence of European great powers started to decline, while the decolonisation of Asia and Africa began. Most countries whose industries had been damaged moved towards economic recovery. Political integration, especially in Europe, emerged as an effort to stabilise postwar relations and fight more effectively in the Cold War

Batman: Arkham City (Game of The Year)

Batman: Arkham City is a 2011 action-adventure video game developed by Rocksteady Studios and released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles, and Microsoft Windows. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is the sequel to the 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum and the second installment in the Batman: Arkham series. It was released worldwide for consoles, beginning in North America on October 18, 2011, with a Microsoft Windows version following on November 22.
Written by veteran Batman writer Paul Dini with Paul Crocker and Sefton Hill, Arkham City is based on the franchise's long-running comic bookmythos. In the game's main story line, Batman is incarcerated in Arkham City, a massive new super-prison enclosing the decaying urban slums of fictional Gotham City. He must uncover the secret behind Arkham's sinister scheme, "Protocol 10", while protecting inmates from the notorious criminals housed there. The game's leading characters are predominantly voiced by actors from the DC Animated Universe, with Kevin Conroy andMark Hamill reprising their roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively. The game is presented from the third-person perspective with a primary focus on Batman's combat and stealth abilities, detective skills, and gadgets that can be used in both combat and exploration. Arkham Cityexpands Batman's arsenal of gadgets and combat attacks and offers a more open world structure, allowing the player to complete side missions away from the primary story line.

The game received critical acclaim, particularly for its narrative, character and world designs, and Batman's combat and navigation abilities. It was tied for the highest-rated video game of 2011 according to review aggregator Metacritic, and was the recipient of several awards including: Game of the Year, Best Action Game, Best Action Adventure Game, Best Adventure Game, and Best Original Score from different media outlets. A Game of the Year edition was released on May 29, 2012, in North America, and on September 7, 2012, for the rest of the world.
